Kai Weller plays with spaces and surfaces. He paints “places†which invite the viewer to place or misplace him- or herself there.
That offer does not last, though, since these pictures defy all imagination, make no effort to uphold that imagined space, always exist in the ambiguity between reality and abstract composition.
This quasi Brechtian strategy works: By disrupting our imagination those pictures appear as something different.
